We’ll continue to build the capacity of Ghanaians in the Energy Sector – Deputy Minister for Energy

Deputy Minister for Energy, Mr. Herbert Krapa has said that the government will continue to make relentless efforts in building the skill and capacity of personnel in the petroleum sector.

Deputy Minister for Energy, Mr. Herbert Krapa has said that the government will continue to make relentless efforts in building the skill and capacity of personnel in the petroleum sector.

He made these remarks when he addressed the Upstream Job Role Localisation Conference at the Accra International Conference Centre on 27th June 2023.

Mr. Krapa underscored that the capacity of knowledge, the capacity of skill, capacity of technology and finance have to come together for that aspiration of Ghana’s local content to hold true, and commended the Petroleum Commission (PC) for the outstanding work done so far, as the upstream regulator.

While iterating Ghana’s accomplishments in the Energy Sector, the Deputy Minister shared the significant investment the government had made in building the capacity of the Ghanaian, in engineering, geosciences, modern technology and welding; and the result of that investment is the moderate pool of Ghanaian skilled personnel available and job-ready for the upstream sector.

“The PC has vigilant and proactive, and today’s Conference for job role localisation is another evidence of your being alive to the task. Congratulations to all of you at the Commission”, Hon. Krapa said.

“The Petroleum Commission deserves all our congratulations on the proactivity to work with the Ministry of Energy to develop a Policy on Localisation, and I can assure you of the Ministry’s fullest support for this important policy to see the light of day”, he continued.

Present at this event was the Chief Director at the Ministry of Energy, Mrs. Wilhelmina Asamoah. She reiterated to journalists the need for a premium to be placed on job role localisation in the sector

The Energy Sector under the leadership of Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh will continue to produce forward-looking ideas on how trained Ghanaian technicians can be utilised in the upstream petroleum industry, as it is a core vision of this government.
