The newly appointed Majority Leader and Leader of Government Business in Ghana’s 9th Parliament, Hon. Mahama Ayariga, has outlined an ambitious vision to guide the country through challenges and towards a brighter future.
Speaking after his formal appointment by the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Ayariga expressed confidence in the administration of President John Dramani Mahama, emphasizing the importance of dialogue, inclusivity, and accountability in governance.
“The road ahead will not be without challenges, but I am confident that together, through constructive dialogue and mutual respect, we can overcome any obstacles and deliver on our collective vision,” he said in his statement.
Mr. Ayariga assured the Ghanaian people that the overwhelming mandate given to President Mahama and the 187-member NDC caucus would be used responsibly. He pledged that the party’s numerical strength in Parliament would be a foundation for fostering unity, rather than a tool for domination.
“Even though we are an overwhelming majority, we will strive for inclusivity, consensus-building, and deeply uphold the principles of probity and accountability in the fulfillment of the dreams of our founding fathers,” he added.
Paying homage to his predecessors, Mr. Ayariga acknowledged the contributions of parliamentary leaders such as Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin and Hon. Haruna Iddrisu. He vowed to use their legacies as guideposts for his leadership.
Reflecting on his political journey, Mr. Ayariga described his rise as a culmination of two decades of service, including roles as an Assemblyman, a Member of Parliament since 2005, and various ministerial positions.
“I stand fulfilled today as the man to lead the largest majority in the history of our 4th Republic,” he said, expressing gratitude to President Mahama, the NDC leadership, and his parliamentary colleagues for their confidence in him.
Hon. Kweku Ricketts-Hagan will serve as the new Deputy Majority Leader, while Hon. Rockson N. Defeamekpor, Hon. Comfort Doyoe Cudjoe-Ghanasah, and Hon. Richard Acheampong have been appointed Majority Chief Whip, 1st Deputy Majority Whip, and 2nd Deputy Majority Whip respectively.
