The Greater Accra regional minister, Titus Glover has called for more strict measures for individuals who attempt to resettle at ECOMOG, Circle after Wednesday’s fire outbreak.
The fire which started around 4 pm on Wednesday, June 5, razed down scores of wooden structures leaving residents homeless.
According to authorities, the cause of the fire is yet to be known although investigations have commenced.
Meanwhile, the regional Minister, who visited the area on Thursday, June 6, said “This morning coming here, you see the GRIDco transmission lines, a national asset and if the fire had affected the lines, we are all gone”.
While acknowledging that it is unfortunate for individuals to live in such an area and under such conditions, Mr. Glover noted that, the regional minister and the regional security council have to protect every life and property.
“I am sad people are living under these pylons and it is unfortunate but I have instructed that nobody should live here anymore and we mean it”, he said.
Wednesday’s inferno is the second time the area experienced a similar fire outbreak with the first one witnessed in February 2022.
