Implementation of the first phase of the ‘Nkoko Nketenkete’ initiative the government’s flagship poultry revitalisation programme has begun in Wenchi in the Bono Region, with the distribution of 10,000 birds in the municipality.

Beneficiary farmers spread across about 30 households received 30 birds in a distribution exercise held at Wenchi.

Madam Gloria Opoku Gyamfi, the Wenchi Municipal Chief Executive, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on the sidelines of the distribution exercise that more poultry farmers in the area would benefit from the birds.

She commended President John Dramani Mahama for the “Nkoko Nketenkete,” initiative, urging the beneficiaries to take proper care of the birds, saying that would determine and inform the implementation of the second phase of the initiative.

Some of the beneficiaries, who spoke to the GNA commended President Mahama for the birds and pledged to take good care of the animals, saying the initiative would greatly improve and enabled them to expand their poultry farms and thereby enhance their socio-economic livelihoods.

President Mahama unveiled the government’s flagship Nkoko Nketenkete initiative, which is not just a job-creation intervention but a deliberate policy to curb the heavy importation of frozen chicken in 2025.

The initiative involved distribution of three million poultry birds, nationwide and designed to bring poultry production directly to the doorsteps of every Ghanaian, in homes, in schools and communities.
