The Minerals Commission has asked controllers of the Prestea-Bogoso mines, FGR and principal shareholder Blue International Holdings Limited based in the United Kingdom to formally write to the commission and lands ministry regarding the supposed care maintenance works of the mines.

In a statement dated January 30, 2024, the Minerals Commission said it has come to its attention that FGR, operators of the Prestea-Bogoso mines made a verbal presentation to the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources to put the mine under care and maintenance.

The Minerals Commission in the statement also noted that, despite the verbal presentation it has not received any formal application.

“For the avoidance of doubts, neither the ministry nor the commission has received a formal application or request from FGR to put the mine under care and maintenance”.

According to the commission, an application to suspend production is clearly set out in section 51 of the Minerals and Mining Act, 2006 (Act 703) which requires the holder of the mining lease to serve a notice to that effect on the minister.
