Whereabouts of Abronye unknown – Lawyer

The lawyer for New Patriotic Party (NPP) Bono Regional Chairman, Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, says his client’s whereabouts remain unknown hours after he was reportedly picked up by security operatives.

Daniel Martey Addo, Managing Counsel at Nkumah & Associates, told Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen that despite visiting multiple offices of the National Investigations Bureau (NIB) in Accra, he has not received official confirmation of Abronye’s detention.

“Currently, as I’m speaking to you, it will be a lie if I say I can confirm his location. His whereabouts are not known. What I’m picking up is that he was in NIB custody,” he said.

Mr. Addo recounted that he and his client were led by an investigator to another office within the NIB Headquarters. However, by the time they reached the ground floor, Abronye had already been moved into a waiting vehicle.

“One of the CID officers, Worlasi, told me they were taking him to NIB. I went briefly to pick up my phone and my client’s phone, and by the time I returned, they had left,” he explained.

The lawyer said subsequent efforts to trace Abronye proved futile.

He visited three NIB offices, including the headquarters and the one at 37, but received no official communication. Even the Head of Administration at NIB Headquarters could not confirm whether Abronye was in custody.

Later information suggested Abronye had been brought to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters, but checks there also yielded nothing. “I returned about three hours ago, and he is still not here,” Mr. Addo added.

He further noted that the police officer who initially invited Abronye, Seth Sewunu, redirected him to Worlasi, who could only confirm that the last place he saw the NPP chairman was at the NIB office at 37.

Abronye’s detention follows a dramatic raid by armed police officers at the home of former NPP Greater Accra Regional Youth Organiser, Moses Abor, in search of him.

The raid comes amid Abronye’s petition to eight embassies and international organisations on September 5, seeking political asylum.

In the petition, he alleged escalating political persecution, threats to his life, and abuse of state security powers under the current government, citing previous arrests, intimidation, and threats from security officials as justification for his request.
