Wife of the late Ayawaso East Member of Parliament, Hajia Amina Adam, has officially declared her intention to contest the upcoming NDC parliamentary primaries for the by-election in the constituency.
The Electoral Commission (EC) on January 16, 2026, announced Tuesday, March 3, as the date for the by-election following the death of the sitting MP, which created a vacancy in Parliament.
Under Article 112 (5) of the 1992 Constitution, the EC is required to organise a by-election whenever a parliamentary seat becomes vacant.
In a statement issued on Thursday, January 22, Hajia Adam said her decision to contest was taken after extensive consultations and appeals from constituents, grassroots party members, and traditional leaders, who encouraged her to continue the work of her late husband.

She paid tribute to the late Mahama Naser Toure, describing his service to the Ayawaso East Constituency as dedicated and impactful, and said she carefully considered the calls from community leaders before agreeing to step forward.
“There has been a clarion call from many quarters in my constituency and beyond for me to step into the shoes of my late husband. After deep reflection and consultations, particularly with elders and grassroots members, I have accepted the call to serve my people,” she stated.
Hajia Adam acknowledged that her decision comes at a difficult moment personally, but said the support and counsel she received from chiefs, imams, youth leaders, and other opinion leaders strengthened her resolve to serve.
I want to assure them that I will not disappoint them,” she added.
Meanwhile, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has released guidelines for the conduct of its Ayawaso East parliamentary primary in the Greater Accra Region as part of preparations towards the March 3 by-election.
