The Medical Superintendent of Sefwi Wiawso Government Hospital, Dr. Jonathan Mensah, has expressed worry about the high rate of suicide attempts among patients.

According to him, the attempts can be attributed to issues such as broken hearts, depression, and family issues, among other things.

Dr. Mensah disclosed this in an interview with Newsmen at the Sefwi Wiawso Municipal Health Directorate Annual Health Review on Friday, February 16, 2024.

He noted that the issue needs urgent attention and intervention hence the hospital’s preparedness to tackle such problems.

He therefore advised the general public to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity from persons who look depressed and constantly talk about relationship problems to the hospital for redress.

On his part, the Chief of Sefwi Futa, Nana Kwadjo Mensah, who chaired the meeting, also appealed to the government as a matter of urgency to complete all abandoned health facilities in the municipality, including the Asawinso health centre, which has been abandoned for years now.

He mentioned that completing these projects will help employ the youth to keep them busy.
