The Chief of Bibiani in the Western North Region of Ghana, Nana Ngoah Anyimah Kodom II, has vowed not to destroy the shrine of his forefathers at Bibiani for mining purposes.
Speaking during this year’s Awukudae when he visited the shrine for pacification, he made it clear that the shrine was built by his forefathers, all his predecessors did not temper with it, and he will not be the one to do so.
He explained further that the shrine is the head of the Bibiani community and can never be changed for anything, no matter how valuable that item is, so those thinking the shrine will be destroyed for mining purposes should awaken from their sleep because the mining will rather cease than exhume the shrine.
He added that, because there wasn’t proper care for the shrine some time ago, the gods also left the community to battle on their own, but he is now coming to take care of the gods and the shrine, so they should accept his apologies for that period of rejection and connect back to the community.
He stressed being a Christian and also taking care of the traditional values of our forefathers, which is not a sin, so we should respect our cultural values along with the Christian values.
