On Wednesday 2nd August 2023, the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Hon.Lariba Zuweira Abudu and the Chief Director, Dr. Afisah Zakariah participated in the maiden edition of the Africa Women And Children Conference (AFRIWOCC), a platform to address the impact of climate change on women and children.
The conference, themed: “Amplifying the Voices of Women and Children in Climate Action” – sought to advocate for policies that champion the interest of women and children in climate change sector regulations and development.
Hon. Lariba Abudu during a panel discussion at the conference said young people who are skillful at spreading new habits and technologies are well placed to contribute to the fight against climate change.
“People especially women should therefore be given a chance to take an active part in the decision-making of local, national and global levels”.
She added that protecting and promoting the rights and well-being of the vulnerable in society is of utmost importance to any Government that wants to achieve an all –inclusive society.
According to Hon. Lariba Abudu, Ghana has also been implementing social intervention programmes aimed at improving the living standard of the extreme poor in the society.
She reiterated Government’s commitment to ensuring that social intervention target the right beneficiaries.
The event brought together participants including high-level government officials, policymakers, renowned experts, representatives from international organisations, civil society organisations, and grassroots Community Leaders.
