The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, widely known as Chairman Wontumi, on Monday, May 26, 2025, reported to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Headquarters in Accra to assist with ongoing investigations into alleged illegal mining activities.

This follows an official invitation extended to him by the Director-General of the CID. Chairman Wontumi arrived at the CID premises at midday, accompanied by a team of lawyers led by former Attorney General, Mr. Godfred Dame.

In a statement signed by Superintendent Joseph Benefo Darkwah, Head of the Public Affairs Unit of the CID, police disclosed that Mr. Antwi-Boasiako was cautioned on three main allegations: engaging in mining operations without a license, polluting water bodies, and unlawfully entering a forest reserve.

“Mr. Antwi-Boasiako cooperated fully with investigators throughout the engagement,” the statement noted.

He was subsequently granted bail and is expected to report to the Police at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, for further proceedings.

The CID assured the public that any further developments on the case will be communicated in due course.
