The Committee on Works and Housing has paid a monitoring visit to selected housing and dredging projects.

At the Odaw River, the team at the Greater Accra Resilient and Integrated Development (GARID), led by Mr Samuel Borquaye, indicated that the project is undergoing steady progress. He mentioned that one major challenge the team faced was the buildup of solid waste at the site after heavy downpours, which tends to slow down productivity because the contractors must first extract and properly dispose of the solid waste before they can proceed with the project.

The Committee then moved to the Caprice extension of the project, which is currently being dredged. At the site, Ing. Richard Kofi Amekor, stated that an early flood warning system is being installed to be able to predict incoming floods by measuring the speed of flow and the rate of water rise.

At Achimota, work was progressing satisfactorily since there had not been any downpours in the last few days. The team cited an amendment to the original design as a reason for the delay in completion.

The Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Vincent Asamoah, and the Ranking Member, Hon. Martin Kwaku Adjei-Mensah Korsah, urged the team to continue with the good work and ensure the completion of the project as soon as possible.
The Committee also made a quick tour of the Tema Development Corporation’s (TDC) Community 1 Phase II projects, where the Ranking Member declared that the market value of the apartments was not affordable for the average Ghanaian.

At the Kpone affordable housing project, the chairman was pleased to find contractors working on site, with the project about 90% complete and some apartments already occupied.
