The sector minister, Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, received the World Bank Country Director for Ghana, Liberia, and Sierra Leone, Mr. Robert Taliercio O’Brien, and his team to a crunch meeting.
The meeting was part of government’s collaborative efforts with the World Bank in addressing critical development challenges in Ghana.
Discussions in the meeting centred on the Greater Accra Resilience and Integrated Development Project (GARID), a vital initiative aimed at mitigating Accra’s perennial flooding challenges.
In his address, the Minister expressed profound gratitude to the World Bank for its continuous support to Ghana’s development endeavour. The sector Minister also appealed to the Bank to consider extending similar project to Kumasi, which has also been grappling with severe flooding issues.
He also highlighted the pressing need for support in the water sector, specifically Ghana Water Limited’s urgent plans to replace its outdated underground distribution lines to further enhance safe accessible water to more Ghanaians. This, he emphasized, would significantly enhance the company’s efficiency and service delivery.
In response, the Country Director commended the Government for the efforts made in flood management and indicated the Bank’s interest in supporting the Ministry in its other priority areas.
