The Minister responsible for Works and Housing, Francis Asenso-Boakye is pleading with Members of Parliament, District Chief Executives, Chiefs and other local authorities to ensure citizens engage in proper disposal of solid wastes.

The Minister on the floor of Parliament on Wednesday, March 1 2023, said as we approach the rainy season, the ministry is putting in place measures to address the perennial flooding across the country.

In answering questions from the member of Parliament for Okaikwei North, the minister for works and Housing said improper disposal of solid waste in the country is a major cause of the flood experienced across the country when it rains.

He added that, since Accra is a low-level area, improper disposal of solid wastes especially into gutters is a major problem.

Mr. Francis Asenso- Boakye appealed to honourable members of Parliament, chiefs, and DCEs to help the ministry ensure the proper disposal of solid waste in our various communities as the ministry prepares towards this year’s rainy season.

Ghana is known to be recording perennial floods across the country for years and almost every year authorities claim to have this major problem under control but during and after rains, lives and properties are lost as a result of flooding.
