Norway has cruised past another opponent and is into the knockout round at the 2026 World Cup.

The Norwegians dispatched Senegal 3-2 on Monday, June 26, at MetLife Stadium. Erling Haaland scored another brace, his second in as many matches at this tournament, on a day in which the stars of the sport ruled once again.

Norway’s scoring was started up by Marcus Holmgren Pedersen in the 43rd minute after a subdued first half from Haaland and the Norwegian attack. But that opened the floodgates.

In the 48th minute, Haaland notched his first tally by running alongside Martin Ødegaard for half of the field, receiving a pass from him and sliding with his left foot forward to knock the ball past Senegal keeper Edouard Mendy.

Senegal made it 2-1 a couple of minutes later on an Ismaila Sarr goal but Haaland didn’t let them dream of a comeback. Five minutes hadn’t gone by before Haaland scored again, this time on a right-footed one-timer that banged off the bottom of the crossbar.

Sarr scored in stoppage time to make it a one-goal game once again, but Norway survived the final push from Senegal to walk away with a second World Cup victory. The players collapsed to the rain-soaked pitch once the referee blew the final whistle.
