Commemoration of World Malaria Day 2021, St. Peter’s care for malaria, a non profitable organization based in Akyem Abuakwa North in the Eastern Region hosted “Zero Malaria And It Starts On Me” in Akyem Tafo lorry station, a high level event which brought together communities and personalities to discuss on how to ensure progress in the fight to end malaria during the covid-19 pandemic and beyond
According to Mr Asare the Chief Executive Officer for St Peter’s care for Malaria said, the importance of people engagement and cross – sector partnerships for malaria elimination like the fight against malaria was a key theme of the event
“I would really encourage people and communities to get behind and to bring their skills and capabilities to the fight against malaria within Abuakwa North.” The CEO stated
Speaking to the media Mr Asare said, Malaria Day is an opportunity for the malaria community to remind the world that malaria is the old pandemic, a diseases that’s thousands of years old kills hundreds of thousands per year and remains a threat that ought to be prioritized ,not diminished by the spotlight of the global focus on covid-19
Throughout the event, a representative from the Akyem Abuakwa North Municipal Health Directorate also shared insight on the people, community engagement and multi-sectoral partnerships for malaria elimination
She said, it is not possible for the private sector or public sector to defeat malaria alone , we must all joined hand to educate ourselves on preventive measures against malaria
She discussed how countries and businesses have adapted health programs in the battle against malaria in the context of the pandemic, as well as opportunities for collaboration to scale up malaria control efforts and increase impact
The Assembly member for Mangoase Electoral Area, Hon Agyeman Afari Williams popularly called Agyengo had the opportunity to expressed his sentiments and cautioned the people especially Mangoase being the center of Akyem Tafo to be vigilant and stop creating a convenient place for mosquitoes.
Present delegations in the caused of the program are ,the New Tafo Zongo Youth president, Don Sly, rep from Adonten Bank, rep from SOS Village New Tafo, rep from the Drivers Union, Municipal Health Directorates and Some Assembly members
