A delegation from the International Association of Word Peace Advocates led by Bishop Samuel Ben Owusu has paid a courtesy call on the Rt Hon Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin to advocate for more peace and stability in the country.

The meeting emphasized the importance of peace and stability in Ghana and explored various strategies to promote or advocate for peace. These strategies included establishing a platform for peace advocates, integrating advocacy into the government system, implementing a robust legal framework for peace, and potentially introducing National Peace and Tolerance Index Awards to recognize organizations that prioritize tolerance in their daily operations.

Part of the purpose of this meeting was to express appreciation and gratitude to the Rt. Hon. Speaker for his exceptional leadership and significant impact in the 8th and 9th Parliaments, as well as to share ideas that they believe can help promote peace in the country.

The Clerk to Parliament, Mr. Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror, highlighted that peace demands sacrifice, and for it to be attained, specific sacrifices must be made.

The Rt. Hon. Speaker formally welcomed the team, commended their unwavering commitment to advocating for peace, and highlighted the need for more such associations. He also underscored the importance of achieving peace through justice and the need to practice peace and show solidarity, while simultaneously refraining from entertaining bullying.

He assured the International Association of World Peace Advocates that Parliament will do its best to support the cause of promoting peace and sustainable development.
