Mr Eric Tetteh, the Municipal Chief Executive Officer (MCE) for Yilo Krobo in the Eastern Region, one of the towns affected by the power cuts by the Electricity Company of Ghana, has appealed to the relevant stakeholders to help restore power to the people of Kroboland.
The MCE’s appeal comes after the National Security, Electricity Company of Ghana and the Traditional authority in the Kroboland are engaging each other to bring the matters to the table for discussion.
Mr Eric Tetteh, while speaking in an interview on Republic FM’s Anɔpa Dawuro on Tuesday, August 9, made it known that the meeting with the various stakeholders especially the National Security and the ECG is to make sure that matters of such nature do not repeat itself.
“The ECG and the National Security want to be very sure because they do not want a repetition or change of thoughts of what has been discussed already. I’m very certain that where we have gotten to would yield a better solution but if anyone resists and wish that we continue to remain in this punishment, then that person does not want the best for our country; but why am I saying this? In my Municipality, we don’t have any problem, if you ask the ECG. We have corporate very well with the ECG and the National Security because we accepted the prepaid. Most of the problems came from Lower Manya Krobo and even with that, it’s just a few of the people in some two areas (Onwuno and Nnuaso) who did not want to corporate with the ECG.
According to the MCE, information he has gathered confirmed that even those who had issues with the Prepaid meters are tired of the supposed war they waged on the ECG and are calling on the authorities to help restore power.
“As an MCE, per what I’ve gathered from Lower Manya Krobo, where the issues are emanating from establishing that those who brought the confusion are tired and so we are appealing to the National Security and ECG that whatever it is, they should restore the power for us because even those who brought riots are not affected more than the business operators in the area. I’m appealing that we bring back the light, we are ready to corporate for the security in the area”, he stated.
Some residents living in Kroboland have consistently engaged in a chaotic impasse with the ECG over some power bills.
They have also raised concerns that a memorandum was reached with their ancestors and the Nkrumah administration during the construction of the Akosombo Dam, which according to them, was that they shall not pay electricity bills.
The Municipal Health Director has said that dead bodies deposited in most health facilities in the area decaying as of the results unavailability of power to preserve the bodies.
