Rt. Rev. Stephen Richard Bosomtwe Ayensu, a former Methodist Bishop for Obuasi has directed his attack to his own church for disowning him over comments he made about the Former President, John Dramani Mahama.

He is alleged to have attacked former President John Mahama for saying that he would repeal E-levy when he is voted as president of Ghana once more.

Rt. Rev. Bosomtwe Ayensu allegedly made the comment during the 25th Annual Synod of the Obuasi Diocese of the Methodist church.

In a press statement, the church said it isn’t related to any political celebration and the comment made by Rt. Rev. Bosomtwe Ayensu that attacked Mahama’s promise to repeal the E-Levy when he is voted again into power in 2025.

“Our attention has been drawn to some media publications on some statements made by the Rt. Rev Stephen R. Bosomtwe Ayensu, a past Methodist Bishop of the Obuasi Diocese. The said statement which was made during the 25th Annual Synod of the Obuasi Diocese sought to attack the position of His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, the former President of Ghana on the E-Levy.

“The Methodist Church Ghana wishes to notify the General Public that the Presiding Bishop is [not] the official Spokesperson of the Church. We, therefore appeal to our noble friends of the Media not to draw the name of The Methodist Church Ghana into the alleged statements made by the past Bishop and currently the Superintendent Minister of the Amakom Circuit of the Kumasi Diocese,” parts of the assertion issued by the church learn.

Reacting to the church’s press statement, Rt. Rev. Bosomtwe Ayensu who felt disowned by his own church told Kessben FM on Saturday, May 14, 2022, that whatever he says or do is in accordance with the principles of the book because he hates lies and liars.

”Mr. Host, Akuoko, I’ve been in the ministry as a man of God for over 40 years with good services. Whatever I do or say is in accordance with the principles of the book because I hate lies and liars”.

“If the Methodist Church (my own church) has distanced themselves from my comment, that doesn’t denigrate me. The Church can even decide not to bury me when I’m dead, I don’t care because I’ve done work as a true man of God”, he angrily said
