The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), has reiterated the importance of Burkina Faso, Niger and Mali as members of the community.
This comes after the three member states on Sunday, January 28, announced that they had withdrawn from the ECOWAS, stating that the ECOWAS “has drifted from the ideals of its founding fathers and the spirit of Pan-Africanism.”
However, ECOWAS through a statement in response, has reaffirmed its commitment to resolving the political impasse in those nations, emphasizing the importance of Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger to the community.
Meanwhile, the ECOWAS commission has said it is yet to receive any formal notification from the three member states regarding their intention to withdraw from the community.
