The biggest gathering of youth from across Africa took place at the Accra International Conference Center, from 20th to 22nd October, 2021.
The YouthConnekt Africa Summit brought together youth from 21 African countries to deliberate on meaningful ways to propel the African continent forward by taking advantage of the African Continental Free Trade Area Agreement.
The summit was on the theme, “Africa Beyond Aid: Positioning the Youth for the Post COVID Economy and AfCFTA Opportunities” and offered young people the opportunity to identify problems on the continent and how to solve them by taking advantage of the intra-trade market that AfCFTA offers.
Leaders of countries were encouraged to provide the forum for young people both home and in the Diaspora to be part and heard in all aspects of youth development initiatives.
In attendance were: H.E. Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Vice President of the Republic of Ghana; Oulie Keita, Executive Director, YouthConnekt Africa Hub; Hon. Mustapha Ussif, Minister of Youth and Sports – Ghana; Hon. Rosemary Mbabazi, Minister Youth and Culture (Rwanda) and Chairperson of YouthConnekt Africa; Mad. Ahunna Eziankonwa, Asst. Sec.-Gen and Director of Africa Region UNDP; Hon. Pius Enam Hadzide, CEO of National Youth Authority- Ghana; Charles Abani, UN Resident Coordinator-Ghana; H.E. LIM Jung-taek, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to the Republic of Ghana; Mr. Patrice Motsepe, CAF President and many other personalities.
Through this summit, the National Youth Authority of Ghana is poised to launch a National Volunteer Program in December, 2021 to offer young people the opportunity to contribute to development issues and solve problems in their communities.
