14 NDC members pick forms to contest Tamale Central by-election

Fourteen NDC PC hopefuls have so far picked nomination forms to contest the Tamale Central parliamentary seat, which became vacant following the tragic death of the sitting MP along with seven others in a helicopter crash three weeks ago.

Among those who picked up forms are a former mayor, two lecturers, a diplomat, and other notable figures, with two of the aspirants being women.

The nomination process, which spans three days, opened on Friday, August 22, 2025, and will close on Sunday, August 24. Filing and submission of completed forms is scheduled for Thursday, August 28, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Meanwhile, regional party executives have urged all aspirants and their supporters to conduct a clean and decent campaign ahead of the primaries.

The Tamale Central parliamentary seat became vacant following the tragic death of the sitting Member of Parliament, Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, in a helicopter crash on August 6. The late MP was among eight people, including security personnel, who lost their lives when the aircraft went down during an official assignment in the Ashanti Region.
