Black Stars head coach, Chris Hughton, has confirmed that Leicester City forward, Fatawu Issahaku will replace injured Joseph Painstil for Ghana’s 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match against Central African Republic.
Coach Chris Hughton revealed this during his pre-match press conference on Wednesday evening.
Ghana Football Association (GFA) on Tuesday announced that the Genk forward had picked up an injury during Genk’s last league match against Anderlecht on Sunday, forcing the 25-year-old to withdraw from the Ghana squad.
He was however granted permission by the technical team to return to his club in Belgium for further assessment.
Answering the question of who was going to replace Joseph Painstil, Chris Hughton said “Yes, Fatawu Issahaku will join the squad and we are hoping that he will be with us this evening.”
The game, which is the last qualification match, will be played on Thursday afternoon at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.
