Tempers are heightening at Ntumkumso near Effiduase in the Sekyere East District of the Ashanti Region over a chieftaincy dispute in the community that led to the death of a woman leaving six others sustained various degrees of gun injuries.
Speaking to an eyewitness, he alleged that, they were preparing to install their new chief when unknown persons from the camp of the old chief attacked them firing gunshots leading to the death of the woman and the six others.
In the brief history of Ntumkumso chieftaincy dispute; the Ntumkumso people are called the Nponuafo and they are also the Nefahene of Effiduase Traditional Council.
However, Effiduase Traditional Council and Ntumkumso people engage each other over the ownership of Ntumkumso land and Effiduase chief took the matter to the Mampong court and Ntumkumso people won the case and decided to abrogate the instalment of all the old chiefs which brought misunderstanding among them and the Mampong Judiciary determine the matter in favour of Nponua people given them the mandate to install their own people as chiefs since the land legally belongs to Nponuafo.
“On the day of the installation of the new chief, the other factions allegedly attack and disrupt the programme and burnt the sound system, canopies and chairs that were supposed to use for the occasion”.
The six persons who were injured were sent to the Effiduase Hospital and the matter is still under the Effiduase police care for investigation.
