The Akwatia District Police Command has opened investigations into an alleged assault on Alhaji Masawudu Osman, Third Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), during the by-election in the Vawaso Electoral Area on Tuesday, September 2, 2025.
The incident reportedly occurred at the Akwatia Lorry Station, where tensions erupted between Alhaji Osman and the escort of National Democratic Congress (NDC) Vice Chairman, Chief Sofo Azorka.
Alhaji Masawudu, who had been deployed to monitor the polls, narrated that the confrontation took place near the Akwatia Zongo area while he was speaking to the media.
According to a statement released by the Eastern South Regional Police Command, the politician was issued a police medical form for treatment at a hospital to aid investigations.
The case has since been handed over to the Eastern South Regional Police Command for further inquiry.
The statement, signed by DSP David Fianko Okyere of the Public Affairs Unit, assured the public of a comprehensive probe, stressing the police’s commitment to upholding law and order in the wake of the electoral disturbance.
