Chief Executive Officer and founder of Emel Foundation, a non-profit organisation, madam Emelia Essel Hagar has supported over 100 vulnerable individuals to renew their National Health Insurance Scheme card to enable them to get access to quality health care in Antoase a suburb of Wenchi in the Bono region.
Madam Essel explained to the media in a closed interview that she was motivated by the number of people that came to her to complain of their inability to renew their NHIS to support their hospital bills, saying, the gesture was to bring some comfort to the vulnerable as they go through some hardships.
‘’Celebrating my birthday, I wish to reach out to people who could need my help, birthdays should not be celebrated alone with what you have, attending pools, and clubs to enjoy yourself, we need to thank God by helping others”, Madam Essel stated.
As a nurse who works at the Wenchi Methodist Hospital, in the Bono Region, she underlined her determination to do what she could, to make things a bit better for the vulnerable in society.
According to her, the NHIS since its inception has helped many people to access free health care but noted that there were still a good number of people in some communities who had not either registered or were unable to renew their expired cards.
She reiterated that there was no better time to support the needy than on her birthday and therefore hopes to assist many people to access their health care for free.
She urged the communities to be each other’s keepers and show generosity to the socially disadvantaged in these trying times.
The beneficiaries commended the CEO for bearing the cost of the renewal and registration and thanked her for the kind gesture.
They also appealed to her to extend kindness to the other communities.
