Finance Minister, Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam has implored Ghanaians to be patient with the government and be rest assured that the economy will bounce back in no time.
According to the minister, President Akufo-Addo and the key handlers of the economy with the policies implemented have seen more robust economic growth than ever anticipated.
Dr. Amin Adam made this remark at the opening ceremony of a 3-day Annual Health Summit organized by the Ministry of Health held in Accra on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, on the theme; “Quality Healthcare Delivery: A Catalyst for Achieving Universal Health Coverage in Ghana”.
The minister revealed that the economy which was projected to grow at a 1.5% growth rate, and with the signs of growth being witnessed from the data, shows that this year will even be better.
“So when I say the recovery is strong, I mean it. Inflation has also been on the decline. From the peak of 54% at the end of 2022, twelve months later it came down to 25% and we are working to ensure that by the end of this year, inflation rate reaches 15% and by the end of 2027, inflation comes to a single digit. The digit we had before COVID struck our country and the rest of the world”, the Finance Minister stressed.
Furthermore, the minister noted that achieving the required target, will be at a huge fiscal cost and Ghanaians are bearing the hardship of these adjustments hence “on behalf of the president I want to thank you for all the sacrifices you continue to make and to count on your patience, as we fix the economy to improve on the living conditions”.
Touching on the health sector, the minister acknowledged all the demands and concerns made by stakeholders in the sector in terms of financing and indicated that his ministry will continue to put in efforts to support the health sector.
“A healthy society is a productive society and a productive society is a growing economy and therefore there is a positive correlation between health delivery and economic growth and development”, he added.
The Summit is to track progress made and its performance in the previous year to inform decision-making moving forward in the health sector.
