The SAS Finance Group has officially extended invitations to the 21 players of Ghana’s Black Satellites squad, who triumphed at the 2009 FIFA U-20 World Cup, to collect their matured investment cheques.
This follows the maturity of a 15-year investment made on behalf of the players by the Ministry of Youth and Sports in 2009. The Ministry allocated a total of GH₵210,000 to the team, with each player receiving GH₵10,000 as an investment package.
In a letter addressed to the General Secretary of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and copied to the Ministry of Youth and Sports, SAS confirmed that the cheques will be available for collection at their office on the 14th floor of the World Trade Centre, Independence Avenue, Accra, starting January 8, 2025.
The letter outlined the procedures for collection, stating:
- Players must present a valid Ghana Card for identification.
- Those unable to collect in person may authorize a representative by presenting a notarized Power of Attorney.
Additionally, SAS revealed that the investment package included annual insurance coverage to cater to life and health-related expenses for each player throughout the 15-year period.
The Black Satellites’ victory in 2009 remains a historic achievement in Ghanaian football, as the team became the first and only African side to win the U-20 World Cup, defeating Brazil in a thrilling penalty shootout.
