A boat carrying mourners from Azizanya to Azizakpe crashed, resulting in a terrible tragedy in the Volta Region.
According to reports, the boat was transporting more passengers than it was intended to when a storm hit the region.
Sources say more than 20 people were aboard the boat, which could only hold about 25 passengers. Unfortunately, five of the passengers have already been identified as dead, and a rescue effort is still on to save the other passengers.
Daniel Adzakpa, an Assembly member from Azizakpe Electoral Area, confirmed the accident, claiming that the boat capsized due to a storm.
He added that most of the passengers on board were women. Hundreds of residents, including other mourners, gathered on the river banks, praying for good news as the rescue operation unfolded.
The incident is a tragic reminder of the importance of adhering to safety regulations and ensuring that boats and other vehicles are not overloaded. Such accidents are avoidable and often lead to loss of lives and property.
The government and other stakeholders must work together to ensure that safety measures are implemented and enforced to prevent similar tragedies from occurring in the future.
Meanwhile, the families of the victims are left to grieve and mourn their loss. The community and the nation as a whole must come together to support them during this difficult time.
The government and relevant authorities must also ensure that the necessary resources are made available to support the rescue mission and provide aid to the affected families.
