‘Chaotic’ Parliament adjourned amid striking GRNMA brouhaha

Proceedings in Parliament descended into chaos on Tuesday, June 10, following a heated confrontation sparked by the Minority’s attempt to make a statement on the ongoing strike by the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA).

Dr. Ayew Afriyie, the Ranking Member on the Health Committee, insisted on addressing the House regarding the nurses’ industrial action, despite the First Deputy Speaker, Bernard Ahiafor’s refusal to admit the statement.

The situation escalated dramatically when the Speaker ordered the Marshal to remove Dr. Afriyie from the chamber.

This directive triggered an uproar among Minority Members of Parliament.

Amidst protests and disruptions, tensions ran high as members engaged in heated exchanges, ultimately forcing the Speaker to adjourn proceedings to Wednesday.
