A woman identified as Dorcas Basoa has been brutally assaulted by a local chief, Nana Okyere Sibour II over an outstanding debt at Asufufuo in the Ahafo region.
Reports indicated that the incident happened when the woman approached the chief to discuss an unresolved debt but the peaceful confrontation quickly escalated, leading to the chief physically assaulting the woman.
According to eyewitnesses, the assault has left the woman with significant injuries and currently receiving treatment.
Meanwhile, local authorities have been notified, and an investigation is underway.
The incident has since been condemned by individuals who are calling for justice and appropriate actions against the chief.
The Ahafo Regional Police are therefore urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward to assist with the investigation while the human rights organizations in the region have also condemned the act emphasizing that such acts of violence are unacceptable and that the perpetrators, regardless of their status must be held accountable.
