The Member of Parliament for Abetifi constituency, Hon. Dr. Bryan Acheampong, has indicated that the much-talked-about Kwahu Airport will hopefully commence construction in August this year.
He said that although the project, which came into existence some two years ago, was under review by the Civil Aviation, National Security, and Environmental Protection departments, it has been given some approval to commence construction.
The MP made the revelation during the first edition of his “Big Interview” at Rock City on Monday, July 3, where he was highlighting the need for the indigenous Kwahu people and politicians to build Kwahu, not because of votes.
“Our people need help. Our people are poor. The educational, and health infrastructure is not there, water crisis. Some six years ago, we were competing with cattle for water. So it’s not something that we should ever do because of votes. The people at Kwahu – Tafo are my family, so I’m inculcating in them the agenda that, these projects we’re doing, we should do it because we’re Kwahus and our people are suffering”, he stated.
However, he added that, if all these infrastructures are built collectively, Kwahus can now leverage on them to pursue the bigger Kwahu Development Agenda.
“If we’re able to build all these infrastructures within the next eight years, we can now take advantage of it and begin to pursue the bigger Kwahu Development Agenda.
Luckily for us, after EPA gave us the approval, national security gave us approval of their ‘No objection’ some two weeks ago to go ahead with the construction of the airport. We met with Civil Aviation last week, which was initially raising concerns about airspace analysis.
We met last week, and they have agreed to create a path for us to begin the construction while we fulfil that document, so I’m hoping that by August 1st, we should be able to start the construction of the airport which will stretch 4 km.
It will be one of the best commercially viable airports that will create a ton of jobs, so we’re on course to pursue an Agenda for the development of our people. It’s not for the politics, especially on our part but it because we’re Kwahus and everything that we do should be focused on serving our people in the hopes that our efforts will be able to turn our communities around”,
The Kwahu Airport has been earmarked to be situated at Ahinase on the Tafo – Kwahu stretch towards the Afram Plains River.
The runway will be a 4 km stretch, expected to beat the 3.2 km Kotoka International Airport to become one of the largest in the sub-region when completed.
