The High Court in Accra has adjourned to October 21 to deliver a ruling on a motion filed by Bernard Mornah, the flagbearer of the People’s National Convention (PNC), contesting the Electoral Commission’s (EC) decision to disqualify him from the 2024 presidential election.
The EC disqualified Mornah and 10 other candidates, citing errors in their nomination forms that were not rectified.
Mornah is one of three individuals who have filed legal actions against the EC, claiming a violation of constitutional provisions by not allowing them the chance to correct these errors.
In court, Mornah’s legal team contended that the EC exceeded its discretionary powers.
His lawyer, Harold Atuguba, called for a suspension of all electoral activities related to the presidential election until a court decision is made.
The EC has countered Mornah’s allegations, stating that while it highlighted some errors, those considered criminal in nature were not communicated to the candidates.
The upcoming ruling is set to clarify the legal standing of Mornah’s challenge and the EC’s authority in the nomination process.
