The Cape Coast district court is expected to resume hearing of the case involving an Adisadel College student captured in a viral video assaulting a colleague student on Wednesday, September 27, 2023.
In the viral video one student was seen attacking his colleague in one of the dormitories and hitting his head against a metallic bed injuring him in the process.
The incident attracted a nationwide conversation resulting in the arrest of the suspect on Wednesday, July 26, on charges of causing harm and assault but appearing in court, the suspect pleaded not guilty to both charges leveled against him.
The accused, whose identity is being protected due to his status as a juvenile, faced the challenge of combining the court case with the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
As a result, the court presided over by His Lordship Eric Oheneba Antwi Boasiako adjourned the case to September 27, 2023, to allow the students to complete their final exams without interference.
In court on August 2, 2023, the case was heard in the judge’s chamber due to the sensitive nature of the matter.
Meanwhile, the Housemaster, Ekow Holman, is still on interdiction as authorities at Adisadel College investigate the matter.
The Ghana Education Service (GES) in a statement described the incident as “barbaric,” and indicated that it has directed its regional director to work together with the school authorities and the police to ensure that the matter is brought to a close.
The deputy minister for Education, Rev. Ntim Fordjour who also visited the school called for an end to any form of bullying in various schools across the country.
He also mentioned that an investigative team has been set up to look into the incident and submit a report to the ministry.
