A Sunyani-based Forestry Commission guard with the Leopard Unit of the Asukese forest reserve who went missing some three weeks ago has been found with legs tied and handcuffed near the Nkawkaw Asona refuse dump site by a ZoomLion bin truck driver and his mate in the early hours of Monday, July 24.
Vitus Yourdong, 31, told Republic FM’s reporter, Nana Kwame Andoh, that he was captured by some illegal chain saw operators in the Asukesse forest reserve in Sunyani during an operation on July 2, 2023, after he excused his colleagues to attend to a nature’s call.
According to him, when the illegal chainsaw operators saw him, they assaulted him several times and manhandled him until he was dumped at the Nkawkaw Asona refuse dump site.
The Zoomlion truck driver, Saza Agbotiyao, also narrated how he found the victim at the dumping site.
Mr. Nii Kwei Kussachin, District Forest Manager for Mpraeso, who visited the Nkawkaw Central Police Station to assess the situation, also updated the reporter on the situation.
The victim has subsequently been freed from handcuffs on the orders of the Regional Police Command and is being treated at the Nkawkaw Holy Family Hospital.
