Deputy Minister of Finance-designate Abena Osei-Asare who also took her turn told the Appointments Committee of Parliament that Government’s prudent management of the country’s economy in the midst of global crisis has shown tenacity to return the country onto the path of rapid growth and development.

The nominee who retained the same position she held in the previous administration informed the Committee she has brought on board to the Finance Ministry her good relation which he built with her colleagues over her years at the Ministry aside her rich qualifications.

Hon. Osei-Asare who is also the Member of Parliament for Atiwa East, said within a period of three years, the government has essentially stabilised Ghana’s economy through fiscal consolidation and micro-prudency.

She indicated that she was placed in charge of budgeting in her previous position as Deputy Minister for Finance by the sector Minister Ken Ofori Atta to assist the Ministry and was responsible in preparing the country’s budget

According to her, the Finance Ministry in the previous administration demonstrated its relentless caring virtue through numerous social interventions with determined focus and firm leadership that brought development to all regardless of one’s location.

She said Government was compelled to adjust the 2020 budget due to the Covid-19 pandemic but the economy picked up strongly and warmly as a result of the prudent measures undertaken through the relentless and untiring efforts of the men and women at the Ministry.

As regards the Energy sector and Financial sector clean-up debts, she replied that these debts are treated separately from the country’s total debt stock since they are one-off debts that will be paid off at the appropriate time.
