English Championship club, Leicester City, have announced the signing of Ghana international Abdul Fatawu Issahaku on a season-long loan from Sporting CP.
The 19-year-old arrives at the King Power Stadium, after struggling to cement his position at the senior level with the Portuguese club.
“I’m so happy. This is an amazing moment for me, I’m happy to be here. For me, from looking at Leicester and how I felt about the coach, here is the best place for me.
“This was the best moment for me to join Leicester. I chose them because I think they can grow me and help me mature. [Enzo Maresca] told me about the plans he has for me and how he wants me to play – how he wants to help me in my football,” Fatawu told the club website after completing the deal.
The young, talented forward joined Sporting Lisbon in April 2022, and made his senior international debut for Portugal against Rio Ave in August 2022, although he has had trouble breaking into the first team.
He played a key role in assisting Ghana’s Under-20 team to win the Africa Under-20 Cup of Nations in March 2021.
He has also featured 14 times for the senior national team, Black Stars and was part of Ghana’s squad in the Qatar 2022 World Cup.
