The Girl’s dormitory of final year students at Obo Kwahu Ridge Senior High and Technical school (KRISTEC), has been razed down by a wild flames of fire.
It is not yet established what actually caused the fire, however, preliminary reports say the fire may have been triggered due to some electrical faults.
Handful of female students occupying a dormitory project that was put up by the School’s PTA are currently left stranded.
The facility used to accommodate 172 students out of which 64 are marginally affected by the fire outbreak.
A report filed by Republic FM’s Andy Frimpong Manso suggest that, the fire started in the early hours of Wednesday, June 29.
However, the headmistress, who may have been privy to the necessary information relating to the fire has refused to brief the media on a direction from the Regional Education director not to speak to the media.
Speaking in an interview with Andy Frimpong Manso, the Member of Parliament for Mpraeso Constituency, Mr. Davis Ansah Opoku offered his sympathy to the students in this trying times.
“In the Early hours of today, the MCE called that there’s been some fire outbreak and we thought it wise to collectively come and first all of assess the damage caused by the fire outbreak and to also sympathize with you.
Myself and the MCE assures you that we are going to fix this tragedy, but for now, we are going to arrange a temporary solution to the problem.
We have spoken to the government and especially, the NADMO, who very soon will come to our aid and the ministry of education is also actively concern”,
The MCE, Emmanuel Atta Ofori Snr on his part, urged the students not to be dampened by the fire outbreak.
He promised that the yet to be completed dormitory will be given a face-lift to provide a comfortable and peaceful environment for the students.
He called on the headmistress to give him 14-days to complete the first floor of the storey building dormitory for the students to move in.
The Kwahu South Municipal Assembly in a bid to provide an immediate relief for the students donated an additional Gh¢5,000 to the school.
No casualties was recorded. Items destroyed by the fire included practical equipment, kitchen wares, textbooks and other learning materials of the students were severely damaged beyond recognition.
