The government has officially commissioned a ten-storey Law House, in Accra, to serve as the new office of the Attorney General and Ministry of Justice.
Construction of the Law House which is adjacent to the High Court complex began in 2001 and was initially expected to be completed in May 2004 but was terminated and re-awarded in January 2023.
With modern facilities including conference rooms, 130 offices, 120 parking lots, and an eating area, the Law House which was already occupied by staff was officially commissioned on Monday, June 10, 2024.
Speaking at the commissioning, Attorney-General Godfred Yeboah Dame, pledged to ensure that all regional offices of the Attorney General and Ministry of Justice are housed in at least three-storey buildings, seeking to end the practice of operating from makeshift structures.
Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo also commending the government on the project called for more and modern facilities across the country to enhance justice delivery.
According to her building courts are essential but not enough to improve access to justice delivery therefore urging the government to dedicate resources toward other projects including legal education reforms, among others to enhance the delivery of justice.
“Access to justice goes beyond providing courts. Access to justice includes facilities for legal education, law reporting, facilities for law reforms, facilities for legal aid services and well-resourced professionals along the justice delivery chain”, she said.
