Black Stars forward, Jordan Ayew, has broken the silence on his preferred position in the national team.
The 32-year-old said since his playing days in the academy and also playing in the French League 1, his preferred position has always been to play as the central attacker.
This comes after he bagged a hat-trick in Ghana’s win against Central African Republic in the FIFA 2026 World Cup qualifiers on Monday night at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.
In his post-match press conference, the Crystal Palace man stated that though he hadn’t been used in a single position, he was confident that his perseverance would be rewarded.
“It has not really been easy with me in the national team but you know I am a person who never give up, I work hard and I believe in my qualities and myself as well as what i do and I knew one day, it would pay and for some couple of games now is being paying off.
“To be honest, I have been playing out of position for quite some time in the national team but is not a problem for me because I just want to be on the pitch and play football. I never complained or anything like that,” he said.
He continued by saying “I like to play different positions as well but obviously my favourite position when I was in France in the academy and everything was number 9 but because I can play wide and maybe in the pockets, obviously it gives the manager a variety to use me a bit everywhere but it’s not something I’m complaining about.”
Ayew has in the last two games for Ghana been in tremendous form, scoring four goals.
