Kumasi Asante Kotoko have emerged winners of the John Agyekum Kufuor Cup on Sunday, after defeating Nsoatreman FC 2-1 at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
The Porcupine Warriors came from a goal down after the first 45 minutes to secure victory in a fiercely contested game.
Nsoatreman took the lead in the 46th minute through Mohammed Abdul Rahman, who beautifully headed home a cross from the flanks.
However, after the break, Kotoko managed to turn things around quickly, with Stephen Mukwala scoring on the 57th minute to bring them level.
Meanwhile, Nsoatreman had the opportunity to lead again in the 63rd minute after Mohammed Abdul Rahman was brought down in the 18-yard box, leading to the referee awarding them a penalty.
But Abdul Manaf failed to put the ball at the back of the net thanks to Federick Asare’s fine save.
Four minutes later, Peter Amidu gave Kotoko the lead, after his deflected effort in the 18-yard box to seal victory for the Warriors.
The game, organized by J.A. Kufuor Foundation, was to commemorate his 85th birthday.
