Kwahu – Akyem Sachet Water producers Association (KASWPA) has said it is from today, as a matter of urgency increasing it Sachet Water prices.
The association had earlier in a circulating document made it position known their intention to increase Sachet Water.
In an in–studio panel discussion on Republic FM’s Anopa Dawuro Thursday January 4, 2022, Secretary of the association, Mr. William Barfour said admitted that the association has taken decision to increase its water prices.
According to Mr. Barfour, the national executives of its association had earlier proposed that, a bag of Sachet Water be charged at Gh4.50p but upon engagements with it stakeholders in the Kwahu – Akyem branch, it concluded and sent a petition to the national executives that, it will charge Gh3.50. However, he said, a bag of Sachet Water was initially selling at Gh3.00 in the production house but since the engagement, it will be charged Gh3.50.
What this means is that, retailers will also adjust the price, which will subsequently be charged at most, gh4.00.
The association is arguing that, production was cost has been maximized. Mr. Barfour said a roll for the Sachet Water production now cost gh18.00 per kilo. He said, initially it was gh13.00 and even at the adjusted gh18.00, a report he received this morning made it known that, from next week, the roll will be adjusted to gh20.00.
“We used to buy the roll per kilo at gh13.00, now it cost gh18.00 and even, just this morning, I was told it would be priced at gh20.00 from next week,” he said.
One of the other reasons given was that, electricity is one factor, whiles chemicals used to filter the water production has also been shot up.
