The Greater Accra branch of the Ghana Private Road and Transport Union (GPRTU) has dispelled rumours that transport fare would go up come, Monday October 25, 2021.
Information circulating on social media platforms indicates that due to hikes in petroleum products and huge tax component, transport fares might go up.
But speaking to the Republic Press, the Regional Industrial Relation Officer of GPRTU, Mr. Abas Morro said there is no such communication from national level to regional levels or district levels.
Mr. Morro said, there was a general council meeting at the national level and there was no such memo or communication to that effect.
“I am therefore calling on the general public to disregard such comments and rumours about transport fare hikes,” he stated.
He cautioned all GPRTU branches across the country not to use their own authority to increase transport fares without the mandate of the union adding that in the appropriate time when the union conclude negotiations with government a communique would be issued.
He said commercial vehicles and taxis should continue to charge the old fares until there is an official communication.
