The Minister for Works and Housing, Mr. Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has embarked on a crucial working visit aimed at inspecting and encouraging contractors to accelerate construction efforts on drainage projects.
With the rainy season looming, the Minister emphasized the urgency of completing these vital infrastructure initiatives, overseen by the Greater Accra Resilient and Integrated Development (GARID) Project and the Ghana Hydrological Authority.
The working visit commenced with a thorough inspection of community upgrade works in Alogboshie. At Alogboshie, the Minister assessed ongoing projects encompassing the construction of storm drains, access roads, water supply systems, and other essential social amenities.
Continuing his tour, Mr. Kojo Oppong Nkrumah observed the performance-based dredging activities along the Odaw River on the Graphic Road, crucial preparations ahead of the anticipated rainy season.
The Minister’s itinerary concluded with visits to Iron City in Kasoa and the Weija-Barrier stretch, both notorious for recurring flooding.
He inspected the construction progress of storm drains and catchment systems designed to manage significant volumes of rainwater and silt runoff from hill areas.
These initiatives form part of the Ministry’s National Flood Control Programme, strategically devised by implementing agencies to combat perennial flooding, particularly in flood-prone regions across the nation.
