Police arrest two for allegedly plotting assassination against Akyem Kwabeng Chief and Queen mother

The Eastern South Regional Police Command has arrested two individuals over an alleged plot to assassinate Daasebre Ayimadu Kantamanto II, the Chief of Akyem Kwabeng and Gyasehene of the Akyem Abuakwa State.

According to police sources, the Command received credible intelligence on October 11, 2025, around 10:00 a.m., suggesting that some persons were planning to eliminate the Chief ahead of his first Royal Durbar, which was scheduled for October 17, 2025, at Akyem Kwabeng.

Acting swiftly on the information, a team of officers from the Regional Police Intelligence Directorate (PID) was deployed the following day, October 12, to infiltrate the group suspected of masterminding the assassination.

During the covert operation, Emelia Akua Asor, aged 47, allegedly offered GH₵50,000.00 to the undercover officers to carry out the killing of both the Chief and another woman believed to be the newly appointed Queen Mother of Akyem Kwabeng.

Police investigations further revealed that Emelia Akua Asor directed Butuakwa Seth, aged 48, to assist the supposed hitmen by identifying the Chief and the woman’s residence.

Seth reportedly led the officers to the two locations and provided them with a photograph of the Chief to aid in the planned attack.

The suspects also promised to pay an additional GH₵50,000.00 after the execution of the act.

The two suspects have since been arrested and are currently in police custody assisting with further investigations.

The Eastern South Regional Police Command has assured the public that investigations are ongoing and promised to provide additional updates in due course.
