The Eastern Regional Secretary of the National Democratic Congress, Mr. Cudjoe Adukpo has urged the Akufo-Addo led government to direct its maximum attention to salvage the ailing Tema Oil Refinery [TOR] if the government wants to subsidise fuel hikes in the country.

According to Mr. Cudjoe, who spoke with Republic FM on Friday, February 18, 2022, Ghana refines oil in the UK and import them back to the country.

He said, he does not see the need on why a government will appoint a Chief Executive Officer and its Board that receive salary monthly and does not add any value to the economy.

He commented that it will be necessary for the government to at least, refine a bit of the oil in the country in order to subsidise the price of the fuel.

“As we speak, Ghana refines oil in the UK. What government needs to do is to, at least refine a portion of the raw oil at TOR in order to shook the fuel prices but the government has appointed people, getting paid and they’re sitting idle” he said.

He urged the government to scrap the Sanitation Levy and revamp the grounded TOR and ensure proper maintenance at the facility.
