Residents of Techiman in the Bono East region are living in fear following the continuous killing and disappearance of people for ritual purposes in the town in recent times.
According to them, the ritual killings which started as rumour gained popularity in the community following the discovery of six persons murdered in cold blood from January to date.
The information available to Republic Press indicates that out of the six persons murdered in the town, it was discovered that some parts of their bodies such as sex organs, fingers, heads, breasts and others were missing.
The residents say this development has put fear and panic among traders, travellers and indigenes who hitherto enjoyed staying in the community.
Sources say indigenes and residents operating in the community have to leave town early these days to avoid becoming a victim of these inhumane acts.
“As we speak you cannot stay in town up to 9:00 pm these days because you don’t know who are the killers. One other aspect is that it is difficult to find a mad person on the street because that was their target last year,” some residents alleged.
They say due to the continuous reporting and announcement on radio stations in the area about missing people, the chiefs of the area met and passed a resolution that residents should not announce the disappearance of relatives on any media platform.
According to the Chiefs of the area, the continuous announcement of missing people will tarnish the image of the Techiman town.
All attempts to reach out to the Techiman Traditional Council to react to the issue proved futile as calls went unanswered.
