A young woman in her late 20s has drowned in the Kujose River of the White Volta Lake at Daboya in the Savannah Region.
Identified as Nafisa, the incident occurred while she and three other female companions were washing in the river.
The survivors, who narrowly escaped the tragedy, quickly informed Daboya’s local authorities about what had happened.
An eyewitness reported that Nafisa inadvertently ventured into the deeper area of the river and was unable to recover.
Her lifeless body was found three days later, despite the efforts of passersby to find her right away. Nafisa was buried in accordance with Islamic custom.
The Kujose River serves as a direct source for the White Volta Lake, connecting the Bagre Dam in neighbouring Burkina Faso to the Akosombo Dam.
