A member of the newly formed group, concerned Mobile Network Subscribers, Mr. Franklin Cudjoe has said, their actions to tackle the loopholes and chaotic scenes in the ongoing sim card re-registration is to deepen the Democratic rights of the Ghanaian populace.

Mr. Franklin Cudjoe, who is also a leading member of the advocacy and think tank group, Imani Africa, was of the view that, what they intend to do to establish their displeasure at the ongoing stress Ghanaians are going through.

Speaking to Kwame Koranteng on Anɔpa Dawuro on Republic Fm, Thursday, 14th January, 2022, he said, people have been converging at various telco offices just to get their sim card registered, meanwhile, the subscriber has already registered the sim card before so what stops the telcos to take the old data to reregister the sim cards.

MR. FRANKLIN CUDJOE

All that we are doing is to ensure that are rights are preserved. We are demonstrating to make sure democracy is deepened. We are exercising our displeasure at the loopholes on the ongoing sim card re-registration”

Mr. Franklin argued that, who in his right senses would use a sim card that has been registered in his or her name to perpetrate fraud whiles the person is aware they can be traced. According to him, nobody will deliberately register their sim cards just officiate and commit crimes.

In his submissions, he said there are different layers of the argument that is being made by the NCA and the Mobile Telecommunication companies. Arguably, he opined that, one of the main issues they’re demonstrating is that, the law is explicit about re-registration of sim cards, meaning, sim cards must be registered as require by law but in his assertions, to what extent would be commanded to reregister their sim cards.

“The law is explicit. The law demands that sim cards are registered. We understand that. But to what extent would the masses be called back to reregister their sim cards? The law never said that, though the law is not is not against registration of sim cards.

Moving further, he rumpled the argument by the NCA and the telcos on the basis of making every Ghanaian own the National Identification card as a poor way of communicating the importance of the national identity card.

According to him, the NDC should rather embark on educating the masses on the importance of the National identity card, but not to threaten people of shutting down their sim cards if they fail to register their sim cards  just because the NCA wants people get the NIA card.

Their agitations of shutting down people sim cards if they fail to register their sim cards with the NIA card is a very poor way of communicating the importance of the NIA card. If you want people to get the NIA card, you educate them on the importance of it. You don’t threatened to shut down their phones and sim cards” he added.

Subsequently, the Concerned Mobile Network Subscribers has earlier implore Ghanaians not to make calls from February 8th, 2022, to exercise their displeasure at the NCA and the Mobile Telecommunication companies.

Members of the concerned group include Mr. Franklin Cudjoe, Ras Mubarak, Professor Raymond Atuguba, Mr. Kojo Bentil, Sam Addy Ayenini and the rest.
