The Black Star Square in Accra is today the scene of a solemn state funeral in honour of six of the eight victims of last week’s fatal Ghana Armed Forces helicopter crash.
The ceremony, which has so far been marked by the reading of tributes, has drawn a wide range of mourners who continue to trickle in to pay their final respects. The event is being attended by members of the clergy, senior security officials, political party representatives, and dignitaries from across the country.
The fallen heroes include:
- Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Minister of Defence
- Dr. Muniru Mohammed Limuna, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator
- Dr. Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of the NDC
- Samuel Aboagye, Former Parliamentary Candidate
- Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala
- Flying Officer Twum Ampadu
- Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah
They perished when a military helicopter, en route from Accra to Obuasi in the Ashanti Region, went off radar and crashed in the Adansi area. Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Minister for Environment, Science and Technology as well as Dr. Muniru Mohammed Limuna who also died in the crash, were buried on Sunday, August 10, 2025.
